“Skyscanner” website reports that it was announced earlier this year that a series of Boeing 737 Palmair flights would commence to Tunisia for the period between November and March, although the airline has since agreed to introduce additional flights to Monastir in May.

Founded in 1957, Palmair was voted Britain’s most popular short- haul airline last year. It is the third time the company received the accolade in the last decade.

Only big carriers Singapore Airlines and Jet Airways scored better for best overall experience and value for money in the poll of passengers of 70 airlines conducted by consumer magazine Which?.

Palmair – with just 19 staff – also came out TOP in the short-haul category. They run flights to 14 European destinations including the Algarve, Corfu, Malta and Tunisia.

The U.S energy Company, Pioneer Natural Resources Company has announced that its daily production in Tunisia has increased by 13% to average 7,000 Barrels of Oil Equivalents Per Day (MBOEPD) during the first nine months of 2009 compared to the same period in 2008.

According to the Tunisian business site “African Manager”, it is expected during the fourth quarter of 2009 production will reach 6,000 Barrels of Oil Equivalents Per Day (MBOEPD).

The company is currently participating in the drilling of two wells under the Adam permit, during the fourth quarter of 2009.

Pioneer has successfully explored in the “Adam”, “Cherouq”, “Borj El Khadra” and “Anaguid” blocks. Oil production from these blocks continues to grow as new discoveries are connected to existing infrastructure.

According to 2007 figures, Tunisia’s oil production reached 6, 7 million tons per year. In 2004 it represented 3, 4 million tons. This increase is due to findings of oil reserves in the south of the country, as well as offshore. Tunisia’s south ensures most of the country’s production.

In 2005, the region of Ghedames produced a number of small deposits such as those of “Dalia”, “Nour”, “Hawa” and “Adam” which totaled a production of some 70,000 barrels per day.

Pioneer has a substantial acreage position in the Ghadames Basin of southern Tunisia with an interest in five blocks totaling approximately three million acres. To date, Pioneer has successfully explored in the Adam, Cherouq, Borj El Khadra and Anaguid blocks. Oil production from these blocks continues to grow as new discoveries are connected to existing infrastructure.

Company is operator of the Cherouq block. Facilities are currently being constructed to handle growing production. Pioneer is also operator of the Anaguid block, where its first exploration well was a discovery.

Pioneer and the other producers in the country are working with the Tunisian government to evaluate the opportunity to expand infrastructure and supply gas volumes from southern Tunisia to existing markets in northern Tunisia.
