Declaration-Tunisian Students on a general strike today!
The General Union for the Tunisian Students called for a general student strike today. The strike came after a period of struggle and injustice inflicted upon the students which reached its peak when the university kicked out more than 30 students for their student union activism, which is inacceptable!
The General Union called for the strike for the following reasons:
1- The detoriaration of the financial and educational situation of the students: the majority of the tunisian students, along with their families, are suffering the burden of the expenses of high education. And the university grants for the students can no longer cover the minimum of the students expenses due to rising costs of life and inflation.
2- The ministry of supervision keeps parachuting programs on students and professors without consulting them or making them participate in the process.
3- The systematic targeting of the Student Union through putting 5 of its militants in prison, and kicking more than 30 out of university.
4- The refusal of the authorities to launch a dialogue with the students, and the agression against the militants of the students union.
For all those reason the General Union of the tunisian students called for a general student strike today.
The university is a vital space for activism, dialogue, and contributing to the society's development, infringing the righs of students is not acceptable!
Solidarity with our Tunisian comrades struggeling against the tyranny of the regime and for the rights of the students to participate in the elaboration of university programs, to exercise their union work or any political activity on campus!
