Tunisian swimming shines again

Tunisian swimming recently came into the limelight following the Olympic Champion Oussama Mellouli’s gold medal in Rome.

Oussema Mellouli is also the first Tunisian sportsman to give Tunisia 2 gold medals in such prestigious events 40 years after Mohamed Gammoudi won gold in Mexico in the 5000 athletic race.

In confirmation of the good results recently obtained by Mellouli and other Tunisian swimmers, a Tunisian team won the Maghreb Youth Swimming Championship, which took place from November 6 to 8, 2009 on the occasion of the 22nd anniversary of the November 7, Change. With 112 medals, (51 gold, 34 silver and 27 bronze) Tunisia ranked first in the general standings.

As part of the celebration of the 22nd anniversary of the Change, the Tunisian Motorcycle Federation and Related Disciplines is organizing an international event of motorcycles and quads dubbed “2009 Enduro Carthage “. The event will take place on November 7, 2009 between t Raoued and Gammarth, North Tunisia.
The news was announced during a press conference held on Tunis, on Monday.

11  countries, including Tunisia, including 3 European countries such as Italy, France and Poland will compete for two titles.

Anis Nabli, Sofiane Jebara Samir Hizem, Taieb Hizem Hassan Jemmali and Moncef Dhabeh, are the six Tunisian athletes who will take part in this event.
The race which will cover a 4 Km track, will be run from 10 am to 11 am and the other from 14 pm to 15 pm the same day.

Thanks to the participation of several world champions in the “2009 Enduro Carthage “, the competition will be a good opportunity for Tunisian racers and motorcyclists to take advantage of these international experiences. Organizers also hope to seize this opportunity to promote motor sports competitions in Tunisia.

Tunisian women’s Soccer team beats Algeria 1-0

unisia’s National women’s Soccer team defeated Algeria (1-0) following a Day 2 game played on Wednesday at a Women’s Soccer Tournament held by the North African Football Union (NAFU) .

Tunisia’s Fatma Mlaieh opened the score at 78th minute, launching the team on the top of its group.

Tunisia’s women team will play against Egypt on Friday at the El Menzah indoor stadium at 15pm.

The tournament is part of preparations for the Women’s African Nations Cup qualifiers which are scheduled on March 2010. Each of the group winners will go to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Tunisia holds Regional Taekwondo Tournament

The Tunisian Taekwondo Federation has organized for the first time in Tunisia and in the African continent a regional Taekwondo Tournament.

The winners will take part in an International Taekwondo Tournament which will take place from January 2 to 4, 2010.

African, Asian, and European countries are expected to take part in the 3-day tournament.

The event organizers have announced that the selected Taekwondo athletes will be divided into 4 national teams and “will adequately represent Tunisia in the 2012 London Olympic Games.

“This is a very beneficial initiative for Tunisian Taekwondo since it is the first time such an event is organized in Tunisia and in Africa” says Zuhair Nahdi, a Tunisian Taekwondo coach.
