Sousse hosts Comic arts workshop

As part of the celebration of Tunisian theater centenary, the M’hamed Maarouf Sousse cultural center is hosting from November 4 to 7, 2009 the 7th edition of Hadramaut Comic arts workshop.

Fifty five participants gathered in the workshop in order to complete training in arts, involving mime, drama dance, “comedy of art”, and mask making.

An exhibition of masks by Mohiddine Ben Abdallah was inaugurated related to the theatrical practice, and two Tunisian recent pieces, which were scheduled as part of the event.

For its part, Tunisian National Theater will showcase “the daughter of General Gabler”, a play translated into Arabic by Mohamed Driss, director of Tunisian’s National Theater.

On May 26, 1909, Tunisian comic actors gave their first play in Arabic language at the Rossini Theater (the current Tunisian theater in Tunis).

  Hasna Awarded in Tunisia as the ‘Best Moroccan Artist’

According to the London daily Elaph, the Moroccan artist Hasna accepted an award as the ‘best Moroccan artist’ presented by the Tunisian Cultural Ministry at a celebration sponsored by the Tunisian “Republic Newspaper.”

“There is nothing better for someone than to be awarded for the success she has accomplished, and I happy to be among the awarded stars,” said Hasna as she accepted the award.

Michael Jackson’s THIS IS IT currently screened in Tunisia

After the great success of Michael Jackson “History World Tour” concert in Tunisia in 1996, gathering over 60,000 young and old spectators, Tunisia is hosting Michael Jackson’s THIS IS IT movie on October 30, 2009 in theaters.

As part of the celebration of President Ben Ali’s 2009 re-election, and thanks to Michael Jackson’s Tunisian former manager Mr. Tarak Ben Ammar, international movie producer and distributer as well as the owner of the French production and distribution company “Quinta Communications”, Tunisia is the first Arab and African country that will screen the movie among 75 other foreign countries such as United States, Belgium, France, China.

The movie is about MJ’s last rehearsals at the state-of-the-art concert O2 Arena, London includes videos clips, flashes, MJ on stage and backstage, subsequent rehearsals with interview snippets featuring musicians, singers, choreographers and costume designers.

Ethiopian Movie Wins Golden Tanit in Tunisia

The Cinematographic Days of Carthage (JCC) winded up on Saturday night in the capital Tunis; the closure ceremony was held in the Municipal theatre, the illustrious “Candy Box” in the presence of the Tunisian Minister of Culture and Heritage Preservation, and a large number of Tunisian and foreign guests.

Speaking to Alarabonline, Director Nouri Bouzid said, “The organisation of the Cinematographic Days of Carthage is excellent… The large public that attended the JCC intrigued me… Such a high number reveals that Tunisians have a special love for the 7th art: the public is in a way asking for more cinematic works”.

After a musical piece played Brothers Gharbi, Director of the JCC, Dorra Bouchoucha, opened the closure ceremony saying, “Dear Minister, Dear mayor, we will be concluding tonight the JCC… an edition that brought us together in workshops, discussions, and movie theatres… We thank all the staff that helped us organise this event”.
