With the signing by Tunisia of the open skies agreement, a number of international low-cost airline companies have started operating services towards major Tunisian airports.

The latest is the UK- based charter flight company “Palmair” which has launched a series of flights from Exeter to Monastir, marking the beginning of a series of winter flights.

“Skyscanner” website reports that it was announced earlier this year that a series of Boeing 737 Palmair flights would commence to Tunisia for the period between November and March, although the airline has since agreed to introduce additional flights to Monastir in May.

Palmair operate just one 34-year-old Boeing 737 out of Bournemouth airport – yet have been named the THIRD BEST airline in the WORLD in 2008, beating the likes of British Airways.

Founded in 1957, Palmair was voted Britain’s most popular short- haul airline last year. It is the third time the company received the accolade in the last decade.

Only big carriers Singapore Airlines and Jet Airways scored better for best overall experience and value for money in the poll of passengers of 70 airlines conducted by consumer magazine Which?.

Palmair – with just 19 staff – also came out TOP in the short-haul category. They run flights to 14 European destinations including the Algarve, Corfu, Malta and Tunisia.

Several low- cost airlines such as Transavia, Ryanair, Thomsonfly, and EasyJet are already operating services to Tunisia.
